Emerging
Early stage, and the foundations still need building. The profile names the two or three things standing between you and a file a funder can read.
A Mboma Financial Services product
GetTheBag helps South African small businesses sort out their finances, keep the records funders actually ask for, and see the gap between where they are and where they need to be.
POPIA compliant
Six points off a funding-ready file.
Fix funding history first. It carries 20% of the score.
Why applications get declined
A funder asks for statements going back two years, a management account, proof of tax compliance and a repayment story that adds up. Plenty of good South African businesses have the trade but not the file. GetTheBag gets that file in order before you apply, not after you’re declined.
How it works
No consultant fee to find out where you stand. The assessment is free and the profile is yours.
Six sections, about fifteen minutes. Upload your CIPC document, tax certificate and a bank statement, and the platform reads them for you, so you are not retyping numbers you already have.
A score out of 100, a readiness tier, and a section-by-section breakdown that shows which part of your file is weak and what to fix first.
Track cash flow, issue invoices, keep customer records, and watch the funding you qualify for open up as the score moves.
The scoring
No black box. Six sections, each weighted by how much South African funders lean on it, and you can see every one of them.
Scored out of 100. Financial health, funding history and digital presence carry the most weight because they are the sections a credit committee reads first.
Readiness tiers
Every business lands in one of three tiers. None of them is a rejection. Each one comes with the work that moves you up.
Early stage, and the foundations still need building. The profile names the two or three things standing between you and a file a funder can read.
The fundamentals are there. Usually it is record-keeping or trading history that needs a few more months of discipline before an application will hold up.
The file holds up to scrutiny. Funding matches open up and the platform helps you put the application together properly.
Inside the platform
The assessment is the front door. Behind it is the day-to-day software a small business needs to stay fundable.
The scored questionnaire, with document upload that reads your CIPC, SARS and bank paperwork instead of asking you to type it in.
Import a bank statement and the platform builds your cash flow, works out debt service cover, and drafts a plan a funder can actually read.
VAT-correct quotes and invoices, aged receivables, and incoming payments matched against your bank statement so the books stay honest.
A straightforward sales pipeline. Leads, deals, call logs and notes, without paying for a full CRM subscription you will not use.
Opportunities filtered against your real profile and tier, so you stop spending weeks applying for things you were never going to win.
Short, practical modules on the money side of running a business, drawn from the same material Mboma teaches in the room.
Ask questions about your own numbers and get an answer grounded in the statements and records you have already imported.
List what you sell, and find other South African small businesses to buy from. Local trade between businesses on the same platform.
Who it is for
The main audience. Owners who are trading well but cannot show it on paper yet, and want to fix that before the next application.
Vet and monitor a portfolio of small businesses against one consistent score instead of a folder of inconsistent paperwork.
Financial wellness for staff, run alongside the workplace sessions Mboma already delivers on site or online.
The same money fundamentals, pitched for high school and first-job, carrying on from the literacy programme.
Alongside our other work
Mboma Financial Services has spent years in the room. Coaching individuals, running workplace sessions, teaching learners and sitting with small business owners. GetTheBag is that work built into software, so a business keeps moving between appointments and a funder can see the progress for themselves.
Book a walkthrough and we will take you through the assessment, the readiness profile and the tools with your business in front of us.
